This is quickly becoming one of my favorite web sites on the interwebs. Vinyl Collective was created as a forum that celebrates the vinyl format. since its creation in around 3 years ago, it has grown into a site, an amazing online store, a message board, a podcast, a twitter page, and a couple other things that are currently escaping me at the moment. This brilliantly run site gives people who love vinyl updates on new releases and lets people pre-order rare releases and sometime Vinyl Collective ONLY releases. At the same time, it allows vinyl lovers to discuss all things vinyl amongst fellow lp lovers. They also hold contests in cooperation with bands and labels to give away test pressings of records to members of the forum who have recently purchased the normal record. If you love vinyl, and you haven't looked into Vinyl Collective, do yourself a favor and check it out.

The Mylene Sheath

So I have this obsession with The Mylene Sheath, a Kentucky based record label that seems to have a nack for signing some of the most talented, upcoming post-rock bands. Their artist list includes bands like Gifts From Enola, Constants, Caspian, Giants, Beware of Safety, Junius, and many other fantastic artists whose names escape me at the moment. These bands seem to do nothing but grow in critical acclaim and reknown.
This label isn't just know for the great music it keeps cranking out, but also for the eye-catching vinyl this music great pressed into. With every new release an artist makes, we the vinyl collectors can almost always assume that it will come on some sort of crazy colored, marbled, translucent, or splattered vinyl, packaged in some of the most intricate and artistic gatefold covers many, including myself, have ever seen.
If y'all haven't had the chance to check them out, get on it! Support good music!

Inspiration
After seeing the drummer of Maserati completely rip on his set with nothing more than a single bass drum pedal, I have decided that I want to do away with my double bass pedal and perhaps get rid of it all together and instead get myself a high quality single pedal. seriously, seeing him play the things that he did, its completely inspiring and motivating, y'know? If he can do that, why can't I?
Ok, thats all...

Motorphobia
You tend to get it when you are involved in two car accidents in 5 days. I need to invest in a good bike.
In vinyl news, I just got around to listening to the new Ramses III album "I Could Not Love You More" and I've got to say, it nearly put me to sleep, and I mean that in the best possible way. Track 2, "Across the Lake is where my Heart Shines", is gloriously minimalistic ambient post-folk at its best. Not only is the music great, but the record was pressed on limited edition translucent orange limited only to 100 records (I was lucky enough to get my hands on one).
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go hyperventilate into a brown bag.....

Ironic Statement of the Day
On my way to get my car inspected, I got into an accident and totaled my car. I will find pics to post later. Meanwhile, I will sink deeper into my depression......

This Will Destroy You LPs
This Will Destroy You is an instrumental post rock band from Austin, TX* that I absolutely adore. They put on fantastic live shows and have mastered the crescendo-diminuendo heavy genre that is post rock. One minute they are playing beautiful and serene melodies, the other they are crashing cymbals and ripping heavily distorted and reverbed tremelo that could make you shake in your shoes. For me to not own their discog in vinyl would make me ashamed to call myself a post rock fan**.
This Will Destroy You's first release the Young Mountain, a six song EP. This release shook the post rock world, letting everyone know that this was not another loud-soft Explosions knock-off, but a truly unique band with a knack for writing beautiful songs. Not only is this probably my favorite album the band has released, I couldn't resist buying this after seeing that in came on a pink marble vinyl. sooooooooooo pretty.
2008 rolled around, and TWDY released their self-titled record, first full-length album, a release that solidified their position as one of the greatest post rock acts of this era. This record features the song "The Mighty Rio Grande," The best song they have ever crafted. Epic to the 50th degree. After seeing the 3 pressing released in an aquamarine/grey marble, It just had to have it.
Thats all for now. If you haven't heard This Will Destroy You yet, get on it.......
